Kathmandu's central square is a breathtaking sight, packed with palaces, temples, shrines, and pagodas. The colours, sounds and smells are intoxicating as what seems like the whole city passes through on any given day. It is the centre of spiritual and cultural life in Kathmandu and cannot be missed. Kathmandu Durbar Square in front of the old royal palace is one of three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Situated to the west of Östersund, the largest island in Lake Storsjön, Frösön holds a rich historical significance. Named after the Norse god Freyr, the island, which served as the regional centre of Jämtland throughout much of recorded history, boasts the northernmost raised runestone in the world, known as the "Frösö Runestone”. Easily accessible by foot, car, or bus, the island is a short walk across the pedestrian bridge from Östersund. The renowned Swedish composer Wilhelm Peterson-Berger's enchantment with the island led to the creation of "Sommarhagen", now a museum and one of Östersund's most visited attractions.

The many winding steps of Charlotte Amalie were built in the mid 1700s. The bricks for the steps were brought all the way from Denmark as ballast in the empty hulls of the sailing ships. The picturesque 99 steps attract the most foot traffic and cameras. How could one resist this narrow stairway, adorned with flowers on both sides! The original name if the street can be translated as the Greater Tower Street. The steps lead to the Blackbeard’s Castle — a 17th century watch tower. The tower has been closed to visitors since Hurricanes Irma and Maria, but the view from up above is still stunning.
