Aker Brygge is a lively and very popular area situated right by the fjord. It has witnessed enormous development since the days when it used to be a shipyard up until the 80s. Tjuvholme also hosts many art galleries, a sculpture park, and a city beach. Here you'll also find the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, housed in a spectacular wooden building designed by Renzo Piano.

With the help of modern multimedia, the Seaplane Harbour in the wooden architecture suburb Kalamaja tells exciting stories about the Estonian maritime and military history promising a "sea full of excitement" for the whole family in an area that would take nearly 2 million A4 paper sheets laid down side by side. The museum’s display that comprises of more than a couple of hundred large exhibits revitalizes the colourful history of Estonia. In the outdoor area, visitors can tour a collection of historic ships, including the Suur Tõll, Europe's largest steam-powered icebreaker.

Thor Heyerdahl, a Norwegian adventurer and ethnographer, earned international fame for his expeditions across the Pacific Ocean on board the Kon-Tiki and Ra in 1947. And at the Kon-Tiki Museum, you can follow the intriguing events during his expeditions and their significance to world history. Simply pick up a leaflet or a map and walk around the streetscapes of beautiful Victorian buildings. If you get tired, hop on the Newcastle’s Famous Tram, a replica of the original Newcastle working tram in service in the 1920s.
