This small local military museum is a great place to visit to get some knowledge of the military history of the island of Bornholm. Here you can explore military equipment from the past 500 years, uniforms, weapons, remains of a V1 flying bomb, which are all housed in unique historical buildings. On the courtyard you will even find a tank. There are guided tours of the exhibitions. When you are here why not visit the impressive tower called Kastelstårnet, located near the Museum of Defence, a bit south of the old part of Rønne.

This is one of the few surviving parts of the ancient defence system that once surrounded the Old Town. Built in the early 14th century, it was the main defence of the north. Further towers were added in the 15th century, but the Florian's Gate is the only remaining gate from the original eight. In 1660, it was extended to include a Baroque roof, raising its height by one metre, and today it measures around 33.5 metres.

From the other side of the mouth of Bouregreg River, Salé, the old city of pirates and Rabat's rival sister, faces the capital. Founded before Rabat at the start of the 12th century, its medina, lined with fountains, magnificent riads, and mosques, buzzes with activity. Don’t forget the medersa, the Koranic school, a renowned chef-d’oeuvre of Merinides art.

It's undoubtedly great to just walk around the city, grabbing some traditional food every now and then, but if you really want to get to know more about the culture of the place you are visiting, the best thing to do is to visit a museum like this one. Here you will admire numerous exhibitions regarding the origins of Romani people and what they have been through, especially in the last centuries.
