Dating back to the colonial era, the Dutch Hospital has served as a hospital for Dutch officers, a police station after the country's independence, and in 2011, it was converted into a shopping and dining complex. A nice place to hang out, grab a bite, and marvel at the beautifully preserved seventeenth-century colonial architecture.

Cycling through the rice paddies in the surroundings of Hoi An is a popular day trip from town. Organised tours may include visits to rice farms and guides that walk you through the entire process of rice cultivation; tours are organised by multiple local providers and can be arranged privately or as part of a group. If you choose to go it alone, follow Cua Dai in the direction of Cua Dai Beach, and you will eventually end up in the rice fields traversed by bike paths. You're likely to encounter rice farmers and water buffalo who plough rice paddies along the way. Continue along Hai Ba Trung Street to reach An Bang Beach.

The city’s Old Port is a lively waterfront area with plenty to see and do all year long, from pedal boats and bicycles in summer to winter events like Igloofest and New Year’s celebrations. Take a walk along the piers, catch a street performance, or stop at the Clock Tower Beach for a relaxed moment by the water. This is also where La Grande Roue de Montréal, the tallest observation wheel in Canada, is located. From 60 metres up, it offers 360° views over the city and the St. Lawrence River.

Officially declared a Dark Sky Park in 2016, Dark Sky Park Lauwersoog National Park is just a 45-minute drive from Groningen and is mostly renowned for its rich birdlife and the popular night walks, offering a celestial escape in a country with an otherwise heavy light pollution. As one of just above 40 Dark Sky Parks worldwide, and the second in the country after Boschplaat, it promises sightings of the nocturnal wildlife, constellations and, on rare occasions, even the northern lights.
