Nicosia, also known as Lefkosia, the island’s capital, combines both old and new in a busy modern commercial and business centre and a centuries-old culture. The centre of the city comprehends its old quarter surrounded by a Venetian sandstone fortress wall with a moat and heart-shaped bastions. Mosques and palm trees give an oriental atmosphere to the old city. Of the city’s main sights, Cyprus Museum houses the best collection of archaeological artefacts on the island, including a first century AD Roman statuette of Aphrodite of Soli and the original mosaic of Leda and the Swan, while the Leventis Museum depicts the history of the town.

Tucked away in the heart of the Barri Vell, the Escales de Sant Martí (St. Martin’s Steps) form one of Girona’s most iconic and photographed scenes, also featured on Game of Thrones. This timeless corner blends medieval romance with Baroque grandeur, framed by the 17th-century façade of the former Convent of Sant Martí and the striking Casa-Palau Agullana. The palace’s skewed arch stretches over the steps, creating a covered passage that feels both intimate and theatrical — a favourite backdrop for artists and Instagrammers. Even though often busy with visitors, the spot retains a quiet magic, especially early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Sit on the steps with a coffee, and watch as the city’s history unfolds in every shadow and angle.

Right next to the famous Red Square sits Moscow's first urban park since half a century. Designed by American architects Diller Scofidio and Renfro and inaugurated in September 2017, this massive piece of land in the heart of the Russian capital is more than just a park, it is a breath of fresh air to the city's landscape and a new meeting place for locals and tourists alike. Take a walk around its 35-acre grounds and visit its multiple attractions including: two amphitheaters, a market, a restaurant, a world-class philharmonic concert hall, an ice cave, and a boomerang-shaped bridge floating over the Moscow River.

This fantastic Roman Catholic cathedral, also known as Madame l'Afrique, can't absolutely be missed in Algiers. The stunning building, completed in the late 19th century, features a grandiose interior and, since 2012, it is listed between the historical monuments in Algeria.
