The Chiesa di Santa Caterina d'Alessandria in Palermo attracts visitors from all corners of the globe with its remarkable Sicilian Baroque architecture and ornate decor: the walls are full of ornamental paintings and there are vibrant frescoes, intricately carved statues, and stunning colourful marble interiors. Don't miss out on the magnificent majolica cloister and the view from the rooftop terrace. The bakery located inside the complex sells sweet treats prepared with century-old recipes from Sicily's convents.

Approximately 60 kilometres west of Sundsvall, you'll find Flataklocken, which was designated as the Geographical Centre of Sweden's landmass through a centre-of-gravity calculation by KTH in Stockholm in 1947. This means that if you were to put Sweden on a needle, it would be in balance just over the mountain Flataklocken. It offers a vast 360-degree view of the beautiful landscape in Ljungandalen, and on clear days, one can see far towards the Sundsvall coast. At the summit, there are fire pits and a café open in the summer.

White sand and turquoise water are the key ingredients to Monastir's beaches. The most obvious choice would be to head straight to Karaia (Qaraiya) beach, which is one of the focal points of the city. However, it does get very busy in high season. For those willing to venture a little further afield for some R&R, the beaches of Sousse such as Bou Jaafar and Las Vegas Beach are particularly beautiful. The coast between Monastir and Sousse is a bit more utilitarian but could prove to be an interesting adventure as the locals will often come there to cast a fishing line on the beaches and for all horse lovers, there is riding and racing further inland at the Monastir Hippodrome and the Eki Club. Just beware that there is not a lot of shade on offer along the waterfront, so be sure to pack the SPFs.
