Bugle Hill is the fascinating site where Nandi Temple (Bull Temple) is located. Built in a Dravidian architectural style, the object of veneration is a magnificent statue of Shiva’s sacred bull Nandi: 15 feet tall, over 20 feet long, and carved out of a single block of granite in a glistening 16th-century massive statue. In November and December every year, when the groundnuts are harvested, a groundnut fair is held near the temple.

Villa Vailima mansion was built in 1890 by the famous Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson and was his home for the last five years of his life. Even though he only lived in Samoa for a few years, he did write quite a number of novels during that time. The Samoan people loved him and he was given the name Tusitala, which means 'storyteller.' A half-hour tour explores Villa Vailima and, inside the museum. You'll discover a myriad of artefacts, while outside carefully manicured lawns give an air of elegance. Stevenson and his wife Fanny Osborne are buried next door in the Mt Valea Scenic Reserve.

Alnö, known as 'Norrland's Hawaii', is a volcanic island just outside Sundsvall that formed approximately 570 million years ago. As a result, Alnö features unique rocks and minerals not found anywhere else in the world, including the eponymous Alnöite. Around the turn of the 20th century, Alnö was a true sawmill island with 19 sawmills operating simultaneously. Today's Alnö is a summer paradise with cosy bathing coves, fishing villages, restaurants and cafés.
