The islands of L’île Sainte-Marguerite and L’île Saint-Honorat are two beautiful getaways from the city of Cannes. Just a boat ride away from the harbour, behind the palatial cinema, you can travel to these islands which are fifteen and thirty minutes respectively away from Cannes. L’île Sainte-Marguerite used to be a prison island, where a mysterious, masked prisoner was held in the 17th-century. The peaceful, flower-decked island of Saint-Honorat houses a monastery.

Christmas Island is one of the world's truly spectacular tropical seabird rookeries. It's not just the number and variety of seabirds or their magnificent splendour that make the island so remarkable, but also their sheer visibility. Around 80,000 seabirds nest here annually, with 23 breeding or resident species. Birds can be seen and heard everywhere on the island, at just about any time of the day. With just a little effort, birdwatchers can easily tick off a full list of residents in a busy week or a more relaxed fortnight. However, the elusive Christmas Island hawk owl keeps many coming back. More than 100 vagrant and migratory bird species have been recorded here, including eight breeding seabird species and one subspecies. The most numerous is the wide-ranging red-footed booby, which nests in colonies in trees in many parts of the coastal shore terraces. You may see the endangered Christmas Island frigatebird soaring above Settlement — it's the world's rarest frigatebird and nests only on the island. The golden form of the white-tailed tropic bird is an endemic subspecies unique to Christmas Island. Known locally as the golden bosun bird, this stunning bird is graceful in flight and has been adopted as the island's fauna emblem.

Botanize among a unique collection of military aircraft, become a pilot for a while or experience Sweden during the cold war. There is a lot to discover at the Air Force Museum for both grown ups and children. You’ll find the most special plane in the basement. It’s the wreck of the DC-3 shot down in the 1950s and rediscovered at the bottom of the sea in 2003. In the Flight Lab, you can try being a pilot. You’ll have an exciting day with lots of fun for the whole family. The museum is open all year round and have free admission.

Surrounded by the World Heritage wilderness, this area features a number of excellent bush walks and lookouts. It offers spectacular views over the Jamison Valley and the magnificent waterfall for which it's named. The town also has a good collection of Victorian and other historic buildings.
