Monkey Beach, also known as Teluk Duyung, is popular for its calm water, fine sand, picnic tables, and a troop of half-tame macaques. It is an attractive destination for a 2-3 hour walk through the tropical woodland of Penang National Park, Taman Negara Pulau Pinang. Be sure to check in at the park office before setting off.

The Musée des Automates is a small museum, showing 300 automated dolls from the last two centuries including life-size figures and a full-size re-creation of a street in Montmartre with shops displaying automatons in motion in their windows. In the second museum, Musée des Modèles Réduits, next door, they display models of boats, trains and cars.

One of Germany’s oldest zoos, and still a popular spot, especially if you're travelling with kids. It’s got a good mix of animals, from elephants and hippos to penguins and baboons. There’s a rainforest house and aquarium on site too. Feeding times are worth catching if you're around—check the schedule when you arrive.

Al-Shafi'i Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Jeddah, with foundations dating to the earliest centuries of Islam. While much of the current structure reflects 16th-century Ottoman style, its historic mihrab (prayer niche) is believed to be nearly 1,400 years old. The mosque is named after Imam Al-Shafi'i, a foundational scholar of Sunni Islamic jurisprudence. The building has been carefully restored, revealing intricate carvings and vibrant colour details. Non-Muslim visitors are welcome to enter outside of the five daily prayer times. Appropriate attire is required, and shoes must be removed before stepping onto the carpeted prayer areas.
