Hallands Kulturhistoriska Museum

The oldest parts of Varberg Fortress date from the 13th century and were built by count Jacob Nielsen. Today there are several different activities on the fortress. The remains of the “Bocksten Man” and his unique dress from the 14th century, as well as the “kulknappen” - the shot that is assumed to have killed Carl XII - can be viewed at the County Museum of Varberg.

Konsthallen/Hamnmagasinet

Right at the heart of summer-time Varberg, in the area around the harbour, Society Park, and the Fortress, is Hamnmagasinet, a carefully renovated arts centre built in 1874 when exports of oats from Halland to England got underway. Today it is a centre for art with exhibitions all year round in the Art Gallery. There are also sales and open workshops, a silversmith, a glassworks and ceramists.

Världsarvet Grimeton

The radio station in Grimeton was opened in 1925 for wireless radio links and as such represents a unique technological heritage. In 2004 it was included on UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites and today the facility, with its six accompanying aerial towers, is the last remaining example of what was once a worldwide network of long wave stations. Guided tours of the radio station are available as well as a visitor- and information centre with a café and a shop.
