The Hogueras de San Juan Festival
This is the city’s most important celebration, officially declared as of International Tourist Interest. Its origin lies in the tradition of burning useless objects with the arrival of the summer solstice.
fiestasThroughout the city, over 200 large satirical papier mache statues are set up.
These will go up in smoke on the 24th June during the spectacular “Night of Burning” or “Noche de la Crema“, alongside the popular “Banya” or “soaking” as firefighters put out the blazes.

Story of the Tall Ships' Races
Szczecin has already hosted this event twice – in 2007 and 2013. The sailing ship rally had proven an organisational success on both occasions, bringing much joy to citizens and tourists, and recognition in the eyes of other ports to Szczecin. For the third time, the race finals were be held on the banks of the Oder in 2017. The breathtaking seaside Wały Chrobrego again was filled with an unforgettable sailing atmosphere, and the city will gleam with the white of sailors' hats and striped crewman shirts. Pieter Janssen is an artist from Leuven who mainly works as a scenographer, set builder, and sculptor for the movie world, theatres, and museums. He’s always crafting and sculpting and still constantly loves the fact that he was able to turn his passion into his profession.
His surroundings are very important in his work. Pieter has his studio in Leuven’s Vaartkom district, where he lives in his own fantasy world. When he steps outside, he happily lets the vibrant neighbourhood inspire him.

Son environnement exerce une grande influence sur ses œuvres. Pieter a installé son atelier à Leuven, dans le quartier du Vaartkom. Un endroit dans lequel il peut laisser libre cours à son imagination. Il n'hésite pas à puiser son inspiration dans ce quartier en perpétuelle effervescence.
