Once known as the Convent of the Good Shepherd, the Convent provided refuge for vulnerable women, children and orphans. Nowadays, the convent building and formal gardens play host to events and festivals, workshops and classes, music and theatre performances, and in summer, outdoor cinema. Located on a bend of the Yarra river, the historic site features beautiful and eery gothic spires of the convent, lush lawns, secluded courtyards and a meticulously restored formal garden. Entry is also free and the garden is open late. Have a beer or even join a team of gardening volunteers.

This scenic neighbourhood is a delight both day and night. Stroll along the waterfront and get a feel for the town while taking in the distinct local architecture. Sit down for a seafood lunch, have dinner with a view (over the blue waters and iconic hilltop windmills), or explore the bar scene after sundown.

There is an abundance of Victorian-era architecture in Puerto Plata's historic city centre. The colorful houses have been undergoing restoration over the past decade, and can be seen in Calle Duarte, Calle Separación, Calle Beller and Calle Ariza.
