Citizens of the Schengen countries, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the Kingdom of Brunei can visit the United States for up to 90 days without applying for a visa (as well as citizens of Andorra, Lichtenstein, Monaco and San Marino). Citizens of these countries must obtain an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) before traveling. All other travelers must obtain a visa before visiting the United States. International travelers need a passport that is valid for at least 3 months after the end of their intended trip in order to enter the country.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Atlanta is during the spring (March - May), when the weather is mild, hotel prices are somewhat lower and the city hosts a few outdoor concerts and events, including the Atlanta Jazz Festival and the Atlanta Dogwood Festival. Summers in Atlanta are known for being fairly hot and humid, hotel prices are high, and the city becomes crowded with tourists, but that's when most of festivals take place, such as the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival and the Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival. Be aware that the month of September is hurricane season in Atlanta.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

Serving over 100 million passengers every year, the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is currently the busiest airport in the world and it is located nine miles (14.5 km) south of the city. MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) operates light rail services from the airport to the city center and throughout the metropolitan area. A single ticket to Downtown Atlanta costs $2.50, the Peachtree center station is in the heart of the Downtown hotel district. Taxis are located in the Yellow Bus aisle. A taxi ride to Five Points can take from 15 to 60 minutes depending upon traffic – fares vary according to the number of passengers and the amount of luggage. Car rental services are available a few minutes away from the airport via the SkyTrain. Hotel shuttle services are available on the Purple aisle in the Ground Transportation area at the west end of the Domestic Terminal. Share-ride shuttles leave every 15 minutes from stalls 3 through 10.

A good and cheap way to travel around Atlanta and visit the main attractions is by MARTA. A transport card, as known as Breeze Card costs $2.00 in addition to the cost of the fare. A single fare costs $2.50, and you can reload your card as many times as you need. You are also allowed four free transfers during 3 hours (not valid for round trips). Breeze Vending Machines are located at the MARTA stations. The bus network operates throughout the city from 5h - 1h on weekdays and from 5h - 24h30 during the weekends. The trains operate from 4h45 - 1h on weekdays and from 6h - 1h during the weekends.
