Bilbao - Essential Information

Airport

Bilbao Airport is located 6 miles (9,6 kilometres) northwest of the city. BizkaiBus A3247 departs from outside the main terminal to Plaza Moyua and Gran Vía (central Bilbao) every 20 or 30 minutes from 06.20 (06.15 in winter) to 00.00. The journey takes around 30 minutes and costs €1.50. Taxis from the airport to and from the centre of town cost approximately €20.

Public Transport

Bilbao has an excellent network of metros (underground) and trams. Metro tickets start at €1.30 while a single tram journey costs €1 and an all-day tram pass, €3.15. Bilbao’s reputation for cutting-edge design even extends even to transport. The Metro’s sleek stations were designed by acclaimed architect Norman Foster.

Buy a Creditrans multi-journey travel ticket and you can travel on the metro, Feve trains, trams, buses and the Funicular. They are sold in denominations of €5, €10 and €15 and credits are drawn every time it is used.

Car hire is of course possible, but not advised in Bilbao’s congested – and often hilly – streets.

As an example: you only pay half price at some of the museums. The BilbaoCard is available for 1 day (€6), 2 days (€10) and 3 days (€12) and can be bought at Tourist Information points or online.
