Visitors to Thailand need a valid passport and in some cases a visa to enter the country. Nationals of 57 countries are allowed to enter and remain in the country from 14 to up to 90 days without a visa. Nationals of other 21 countries including China, India and Saudi Arabia are granted a visa on arrival, while the remaining nationalities need a visa in advance. Best Time to Visit
Chiang Mai has three seasons: the dry and cool season (from October to April), the rainy season (from July to October), and the dry and warm season (from April to June). That means the best period to explore Chiang Mai is definitely the dry and cool season; the temperature is pleasant enough to enjoy a long day of sightseeing. However, despite the high temperatures, reaching almost 40°C, many tourists decide to come during the middle of April to experience the Songkran festival, which celebrates the Thai New Year.

Airport
Chiang Mai Airport is located near the city. At the airport you can find restaurants, shops and currency exchange.
The easiest way to reach the city is by taxi or a tuk-tuk. These can be found right outside the airport terminal. A taxi to the city centre costs approximately 120B.
At the airport there are car and limousine rental services available as well as parking. Note that some hotels offer airport transfer.
On the upper floor you will find a transportation counter if you have any questions or need help.

Public Transport
Chiang Mai is a small city, hence very easy to walk around. The main means of transportation around the city are the tuk-tuks (motorbikes), songthaews (small buses) and trishaws (bicycles).
The main bus station is located approximately 15 minutes from the old town. Here you will find an information desk if you need help. It is preferable to book your bus ticket in advance.
There are regular departures to Bangkok from the train station. The train station is located 2-3 kilometres east of the city.
You can rent you own car or bicycle for discovering the area.
