The Museum of Gothenburg’s exhibitions tell the story of 12,000 years of history, explore the city of today and take a look into the future. You’ll find the museum in the unique setting of the Swedish East India Company building from the 1750s. They offer guided city walks, lectures and other activities. The Children’s Museum has all sorts of activities for children aged 0-5.

Gunnebo House was built at the end of the 1800s and the outdoor pursuits area offers the opportunity for superb walks or other exercise in beautiful countryside. The natural environment around the house at Gunnebo is well known and armed with binoculars you can discover many rare plants and birds. Gunnebo Kaffehus & Krog is housed in the servants’ quarters, right next to the kitchen garden. Freshly baked and with a wonderful smell, the bread comes from the Baking Cottage to be enjoyed with freshly made ecological coffee.

Hop On – Hop Off Bus offer a convenient way of getting around Gothenburg. The bus pass most of Gothenburg’s most popular sights such as Avenyn, Liseberg and Feskekôrka. Hop on and off as often as you want over a 24-hour period. The tour takes about one hour if you decide not to get off.

The large park Slottsskogen is a popular area to enjoy a relaxing day with family and friends. It offers the perfect setting for a picnic, exercise, walk or bbq. Here the kids can enjoy the biggest playground in Gothenburg called Plikta that offers lots of fun activities. There is also the zoo that houses wild Nordic animals like elk, deer, penguins and seals.

Towering over the Haga neighbourhood, in central Gothenburg's southern part, you can find one of the city's two remaining forts. It was built in 1698 to protect Gothenburg from possible Danish attacks, which fortunately never happened. Although, there is no access inside of the fort it is worth your time since the view over the city is spectacular from the hill where it is beautifully located.

The main boulevard Kungsportsavenyn is not only a center for entertainment, but this upscale neighborhood also offers exclusive boutiques and clothing stores. Kungsportsavenyn, or simply Avenyn, stretches from the Kungsportsbron bridge by the Moat to Götaplatsen situated near the Museum of Art, the City Theatre, the Concert Hall and the Poseidon statue. Avenyn is lined with shops, cosy cafés, renowned restaurants and popular bars. It gets extra lively here in the summer when holidaymakers enjoy the bar and restaurant life, spilling onto the terraces, giving the atmosphere a very electric yet relaxing feel.

The building Kronhuset, located behind Gustav Adolf Square, is one of the oldest in the city. It was built in the mid-17th century as a storehouse for military uniforms and other military equipment. Today it houses a concert venue and crafts centre with small shops and a café.

The best way to take in Gothenburg is from the water. This guided city tour passes under many often low bridges including the famous “Cheese Slicer” bridge, and out into the harbour. The boat departs from Kungsportsplatsen and the tour takes approximately 50 minutes.

Founded in 1833, this is the oldest museum in the city and located in Slottskogen. A fantastic collection of animals from all over the world, including the only mounted blue whale and the African elephant is displayed here. Welcome to a journey through time. Follow the development of the Volvo cars, trucks, buses, construction vehicles, industrial and marine engines, from the 1920s up until today. The museum also displays about the Volvo Ocean Race and the Volvo Golf Experience. For the small ones, there is a playground and a children’s’ car.

The Gothenburg Museum of Art has a leading collection of Nordic art from the 15th century up until today, where you can explore Edvard Munch, Anders Zorn, P.S. Krøyer and much more. It has three stars in the Michelin Green Guide and features a range of temporary exhibitions.

A creative cultural centre for children and their adults, inspired by the popular Swedish children's book character Alfie Atkins. Children can play, climb and discover daily activities like theatre, music and kid's workouts. Here the kids can have lots of fun in the different rooms and play for hours. At the in-house Malcolm’s Café, visitors can take a break to have something to eat and drink.

Sweden's only museum of fashion, design and decorative art showcases everything from contemporary design to old Chinese ceramics and 20th century fashion. It recently reopened following a major refurbishment, and now features a new permanent Asian collection, plus a rolling array of temporary exhibitions, workshops, and more.

On a small island, only 30 minutes by boat from Gothenburg, stands Nya Älvsborgs Fästning, one of Sweden's most well-preserved fortresses. It dates back to the mid-17th century and is the perfect place to stroll around and to learn more about Gothenburg’s history. Åbybadet has water activities for the whole family. The 50-meter pool in Åbybadet is a good place for swimming and has a separate play area with a diving board and floating toys.
