Multiple branches all around Singapore make it easy to locate a Ya Kun Kaya Toast, and it really is worth doing so in the morning for a quintessentially Singaporean start to the day. A douse of coconut jam, a slice of toast, kaya, and a strong cup of coffee, kopi, will help you get some energy for your sightseeing.

Brunch at Symmetry is nearly impossible to have without a prior reservation, but you can still give it a shot by arriving at least an hour ahead of time. This modern Australian diner is somewhat of a hipster classic by now, complete with vintage decor and indie music playing in the background.

There is plenty to praise about Common Man Coffee Roasters, but if we had to zoom in on just one thing, it would be the all-day breakfast/brunch menu, featuring sweet and savoury international fusion delights. Reservations are available for groups of 5 and up, outside of weekends. The flagship cafe can be found on Martin Road but there are other branches dotted around the city for a quick pick-me-up.

Those on a hunt for authenticity must commit themselves to at least one quintessentially Singaporean breakfast of kaya jam toast, soft-boiled eggs and a coffee. There are few better places to have it than the now century-old Killiney Kopitiam. There are multiple locations across the city, but this location is where it all started in 1919.

You'll probably not run into a foreigner at this Singaporean dessert joint as it is a firm favourite with the locals. If this prospect appeals to you, head straight for a rainbow bread ice cream sandwich called roti, a glass jelly drink or sago pudding, which comes in durian flavour, if you're feeling adventurous.

Wild Honey's two central Singapore locations serve all-day breakfasts from around the world, from Scandinavia to the Caribbean, via Australia and most of Europe. It's a tad pricey, but worth it for the food, ambience and service.
