Piedra All Day Cafe Lounge Bar

Piedra captures Pafos’ easygoing spirit without trying too hard. By day, it’s a sanctuary for properly made coffee — smooth flat whites at the right temperature, served alongside fluffy pancakes drizzled with local honey. As evening falls, the focus shifts to citrus-infused cocktails and dishes like grilled salmon fillet with lemon-caper butter, prepared with a light touch. What sets Piedra apart is its unforced sense of place. The outdoor terrace frames a slice of Old Town life, while the interior balances rustic stone walls with mid-century furniture. Staff remember regulars’ orders but never rush newcomers deliberating over the wine list. Prices stay grounded despite the polished presentation. It’s the kind of spot that adapts to its patrons: solo travellers linger over books with an espresso freddo, couples share mezze platters at sunset, and friends regroup after sightseeing with surprisingly good gin tonics. No gimmicks, just consistent quality in a space that feels lived-in rather than staged.

Friends Resto Bar

Friends Resto Bar has been a Pafos institution since 2000, where earnest entertainment and reliable comfort food attract a crowd who remember when Rod Stewart still had blond highlights. The weekly lineup — Elvis tributes on Tuesdays, karaoke Wednesdays with host Jim Outram — delivers unabashed nostalgia without a trace of irony. Patrons (mostly silver-haired but game for fun) cheer enthusiastically whether the performer nails “Suspicious Minds” or loses the key change. By day, it’s a straightforward brunch spot serving competent eggs Benedict and strong coffee. Evenings bring laminated menus of steak-and-chips classics and surprisingly well-balanced cocktails. The covered patio, with its practical roofing for smokers, becomes a stage for impromptu singalongs when the tribute acts take breaks. What Friends lacks in contemporary edge it makes up for in consistency: owner George greets regulars by name, the sound system is just loud enough, and there’s genuine warmth beneath the neon-lit karaoke screen’s glow. Come for the spectacle, stay because you’ve somehow been coaxed into singing “Sweet Caroline”.

Demokritos Tavern

Demokritos Tavern offers an authentic taste of Cyprus, just three minutes from Pafos harbour on Saint Antonios Street. This family-run spot, managed by owner Terry and his two sons, serves generous portions of traditional dishes — charcoal-grilled meats, wood-oven specialities and classic Cypriot recipes — at affordable prices. The cosy, rustic atmosphere pairs perfectly with their selection of local wines and cocktails. During high season, nightly folklore shows feature Cypriot and Greek dances, including the impressive glass-balancing act where performers dance with stacks of 50 glasses. Given its popularity with locals, booking ahead is recommended.
