Borj El Kebir

Originally built in the 13th century and restored several times throughout the years, Borj El Kebir is an ancient castle overlooking the Houmt Souk region. It is the largest and best-preserved local castle. On a sunny day, you can take a hike up the hill and enjoy a great view of the harbour.

El Ghriba Synagogue

El Ghriba Synagogue, located in the village of Hara Seghira, stands as the oldest synagogue in Tunisia and, possibly, all of Africa. Situated southwest of Houmt El Souk, the main town of Djerba, this historic site serves as the focal point of Jews in North Africa. The synagogue is renowned for its ornate interiors adorned with intricate blue tile work and elegant arches.

The Mosques

Among the many mosques in Djerba’s villages, two should not be missed. The first one is the Turkish mosque in El May. Located in the heart of the island, with whitewashed walls, this fortified mosque is simply beautiful. El May’s market is also worth a visit. In Mellita, another village near the airport, their 9th-century mosque is one of the oldest in the world.

Plage de Sidi Mahrez stands as the primary beach destination in Djerba, offering a laid-back atmosphere and clear turquoise waters. Plage de la Seguia

Plage de la Seguia unfolds as a tranquil haven along the coastline, boasting expansive stretches of golden sand as well as calm and inviting turquoise-blue waters. Nefta

Located on the edge of the awe-inspiring Sahara Desert, Nefta is where the magic of Star Wars becomes a tangible reality. Gightis

Gigthis is a significant archaeological site with roots dating back to the 6th century BC when it was founded by Phoenicians. Thriving during Roman times, it evolved into a bustling port engaged in exporting commodities like gold, ivory, and slaves brought by trans-Saharan caravans. The remains of Gigthis encompass a forum adorned with temples, a monumental arch, a market, and two bathhouses.
