Savonlinna Opera Festival

This long-running summer festival takes place in the medieval Olavinlinna Castle, set in the lake-filled town of Savonlinna (a few hours from Helsinki). It’s been held every July and August since 1967 and draws around 60–70,000 people annually. Expect world-class opera—from classics like Macbeth and Turandot to Finnish premieres—performed in a unique lakeside castle setting.
