The market area of Corfu Old Town is a warren of narrow, stone-paved alleys known as kantounia, lined with craft shops, food stalls, and characterful Venetian-era buildings. Near the New Fortress, daily fresh produce trading keeps things grounded amid the souvenir lanes. Look out for olive wood products among the tourist staples; there is no fast food in sight. Plenty of cafes, bars, and ice cream stops offer a welcome break when the alleys start to blur into one another. The architecture alone makes it worth getting pleasantly lost in.
