Ulus, in the historic district, has a maze of market stalls under one roof selling goods for low-budget shoppers. Another must around Ulus is the Atpazarı, Old Horse Market, and Çıkrıkçılar yokuşu, it does not get more authentic than that. Kocabeyoğlu Pasajı in Kızılay, just off Atatürk Bulvari, is a traditional bazaar. There are many shops in Kızılay.

The nearby İzmir Street, is famous for leather and shoe shops such as Moda Çanta and Togo. For more upmarket shops, try going up Atatürk Bulbar into Tunalı and onwards to the trendy Arjantin Caddesi. On the way up, Karum is one shopping mall you may wish to visit.

Ankara is the city with most shopping malls in Turkey and the majority holds the most famous international brands. Some new and trendy shopping malls around the city are Panora, Gordion, Armada, Cepa, Kentpark, Ankamall, Arcadium, Optimum, and Antares.

For quality tourist souvenirs, handicrafts, carpets and kilims go to Dösim, run buy Ministry of Culture and Gesav, set-up by the Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Foundation.
