After dark, North Beach promenade and the lagoon throngs with people. There is little drinking – the emphasis is on food, atmosphere and quality entertainment. Large hotels have plush lounge bars offering folklore shows, glitzy cabaret or live music. Many have discos, but for grittier late-night venues with a young crowd, try the beach bars and New Tourist Center in town.

This high-tech hotel dance venue near the Egypt border is popular with a younger crowd. The Princess Hotel also has the “Moscow-New York” bar with amazing views of the Red Sea.

In high summer – peak season for Israeli visitors – late-night dance parties are organised on the Taba Rd beaches, especially Dekel.
