这是人们的节日，也是感官的盛宴。每年 7 月的第三周开始，整个城市在 10 天内始终灯火通明。根特节以大游行开幕，以“掏空钱包日”结束。节日期间放假 10 天，人们可以去参加根特爵士音乐节、国际街头戏剧节和木偶艺人节，观看市中心多个舞台上的免费音乐演出，此外还有 700 多场的戏剧演出。市内还举办展览，有导游带领的参观旅行，人们还能观看到节日烟花。
