Public transportation in Kansas City includes buses, a downtown streetcar, and limited regional services, but it may not fully meet all tourists' needs. The city’s bus system, managed by RideKC, offers routes extending beyond downtown, though coverage can be limited for reaching some popular, more distant destinations. As of 2024, Kansas City's Zero Fare program is in effect, allowing free rides on all RideKC buses in Kansas City, including standard routes and some paratransit services. However, due to Kansas City’s spread-out layout, rental cars or rideshare options like Uber and Lyft are often recommended to access neighborhoods and attractions beyond the streetcar line.
