The Chandris family is the best known of Chios’s wealthy ship owning dynasties and branched out from shipping into hotels. Built on the site of the original family home (and on a street named after a Chandris ancestor) this modern hotel has superb views of the harbour, comfortable rooms, fine dining and excellent leisure facilities and is by far the most opulent hotel on the island.

This lovely converted farmhouse (and outbuildings) in the lush Kambos fields offers doubles, family rooms and a two-bedroom stone cottage, all beautifully decorated and furnished. Service is excellent, and it is surprisingly affordable.

Aeriko

This prettily coloured guesthouse stands above the beach at Karfas, away from the bustle of the waterfront and shaded by olive trees. The rooms are very well appointed (with air conditioning) and there is even a medium-sized swimming pool. Highly recommended and very well priced for its facilities.
