Herzogin-Agnes-Gedächtniskirche

This Memorial Church was built in 1897 from duke Ernst I. in remembrance of his wife Agnes. Very special are the windows which hint at the birthday month of Agnes.

Orangery

This baroque building was completed in 1712 and once consisted of three greenhouses. Nowadays, The structure is available for reservation in occasion of special events, such as conferences, cultural meeting and exhibitions. It also features an elegant cafeteria and tea house. Rote Spitzen

If you want to enjoy a view over the city, you should visit this basilica in the heart of Altenburg. The red spires are the landmarks of Altenburg and were built and were built between 1165 and 1172 under the supervision of the emperor Frederick Barbarossa and Udo von Naumburg. They represent one of the most beautiful example of Thuringian Romanesque Architecture. Here is also located the Castle and Playing Card Museum and the Card Fountain.
