Naturum Valådalen is an information centre with exhibitions on the mountain's geology and wildlife, the Sami people, and reindeer husbandry. Let the staff ignite your sense of discovery before you set off on your own excursions in the easily accessible mountain and mountain forest nature outside.

Åreskutan

At 1,420 metres above sea level, Åreskutan is one of Sweden's most famous mountains, offering a magnificent view over the western Jämtland mountain world. Reaching the summit and Sweden's highest eatery, Toppstugan, is made easy thanks to the Kabinbanan — the only one of its kind in the Swedish mountains.

Tännforsen Waterfall

A visit to Sweden's largest waterfall is a must for anyone coming to Åre. In the summer, the falls are incredibly powerful, while in the winter, beautiful ice formations occur, and seeing the water surge over the ice is a very special experience. The rapids are also lit up at night, adding a magical dimension to the water and ice.

Duved Church

The magnificent wooden church of Åre Parish, consecrated in 1894, is designed in Neo-Gothic style. It harks back to a time when economic growth in the area, thanks to emerging tourism, copper mining, and forestry, led to a significant increase in both residents and visitors, making the old church too small.

Njarka Sami Camp

Learn about the Sami way of life at Njarka Sami Camp, located on a peninsula in Häggsjön. The camp has several different types of huts, while a special octagonal hut, called Jarnge, is the centre of Njarka and the venue for special occasions like weddings and christenings. In addition to learning about Sami history, visitors can also feed the reindeer some lichen, sleep in a traditional Sami fashion, and try their hand at lasso throwing.

Karoliner Monument in Duved

The Karoliner Monument is a ten-meter-high granite obelisk, erected in 1892 in memory of the 3,000 men who perished in harsh winter conditions during and after Charles XII's invasion forces' retreat from Trøndelag in 1718. Regular lectures about the death march across the Sylarna are held at Roxy's Sled Dogs.

Fröå Mine

Fröå Gruva, a historic copper mine near Mount Åreskutan, now serves as an open-air museum, showcasing a unique blend of mines, stone heaps and pastures. Operational from 1744 to 1919, this site has been revitalised, featuring reconstructed buildings, a 19th-century water system, and big water wheel. Explore the old mine canals, enjoy guided tours in summer, or walk one one of the hiking trails. The area also includes a café, perfect for a fika break amidst the rich history and stunning mountain scenery.

Åre Bergbana

The iconic 800-meter Åre Bergbana funicular connects Åre Square to Fjällgården Hotel at 556 meters above sea level. Inaugurated in 1910, this engineering marvel remains a symbol of Åre's transformation from a farming village to a renowned winter sports resort. The railway, featuring two carriages operating in tandem, offers year-round service, included in Skistars lift pass. Its upper station houses a museum, narrating Åre's evolution and celebrating local culture and history.
