GOLF IN YSTAD & ÖSTERLEN: FOUR CLUBS AND FIVE COURSES
The four golf clubs of southeast Skåne offer well-tended, varied 18-hole courses within easy reach of each other. Combine a round of golf in Österlen with a few nights staying at local accommodation. Sjöbo Golf Club Play at a fantastic woodland course, where each hole is like its own room with walls of tall pine trees and a ceiling of blue skies. Broad fairways and challenging approach shots lead to elevated, well maintained greens. Golf Digest has described Sjöbo Golf Club as “18 rooms with a kitchenette”. Even in stormy weather, things are calm in the woodland. The broad fairways are ideal for using the driver, giving even players with a high handicap the chance to enjoy great game play. Tricky approach shots leading to elevated, well maintained greens ensure a challenge even for the best players. Ystad Golf Club Here, around the shores of the River Nybroån where the sea meets the land, the ball will always find the shortest route. The magazine SkåneGolf once wrote an article about the dream Skåne golf course, including the opening hole at Ystad Golf Club: “For many players, the fantastic Ystad course provides a shock start. It’s not particularly long, but it certainly is treacherous. Take enough of a shot to get across the water, but not so much that you end up in the water beyond.” Tomelilla Golf Club Amid the beautiful undulating landscape of Österlen lies this well-design, varied 18-hole course. The differences in height provide spectacular views, and require the player to make strategic choices. The pleasant 9-hole pay & play course is ideal for beginners. There’s also a modern hotel just 35 metres from the first tee! Eve Maltais offers delicious culinary experiences at the restaurant, with dishes that take their inspiration from around the world and their ingredients from the local surroundings. Österlen Golf Club, Österlen’s only 36-hole facility: two courses with very different characters. Lilla Vik is a park course with a seaside feel on the edge of the Baltic Sea. The newer Djupadal is an open, undulating heathland course. From the highest point you can see as far as Blekinge. There’s also an enjoyable short-hole course with six holes. This is a coastal, open heathland course with a challenging layout, set in a former orchard. Wistrand Golf offers lessons and courses, and for practising short play there’s also a charming short-hole course with six holes.
