Welcome to Ystad & Österlen!
Österlen is no official geographic region however it has been used for hundreds of years to incorporate the natural boundary of the southeast corner of Sweden towards the Baltic Sea. Österlen stretches from southeast of highway19 between Brösarp in the north down to Ystad in the south, which is includes the municipalities Simrishamn, Tomelilla and Ystad. This is what we call destination Ystad & Österlen.
The favorable climate and fertile soil makes agriculture a key industry. Other major industries are tourism and fishing.
In Ystad & Österlen we celebrate many market and harvest festivals with long tradition. Great locally produced food and drink is often served based on the old food traditions of Skåne. Why not bring a picnic basket on the beach one day and enjoy a gourmet dinner in a restaurant the next?
There are plenty of activities whether you want to stimulate a low or high pulse. Perhaps you are interested in golf, pool, spa, museum, fishing, cycling, horse riding, art, nature, or something completely different ... More than 60 km stretch of coastline from Haväng in the north to Ystad in the south and over 20 km of stunning beaches are there waiting for you.
The tourist season tends to be longer from year to year and the antiques fair in Brösarp in March is the start of the tourist season. When the art exhibition “Konstrundan” starts around Easter the destination really take off as artists, designers and craftspeople show their work in their own homes and studios all around the area. The last big event in the fall is the Österlen Lights & Enlightenment exhibition beginning of November (a variety of arrangements with the light).
