In The Kingdom of Crystal there are many possibilities to experience different food at restaurants, cafés and tea rooms in towns and the many country cafés but also at the glassworks where The Kingdom of Crystal’s national dish hot shop herring is served.
Hyttsill
Hot shop herring is a very old tradition in The Kingdom of Crystal which goes back to the times when the glassworks was the meeting place in the village. In the evenings, visitors are invited to enjoy traditional food prepared in the furnaces where the glass has been left over night to slowly cool down. Today hot shop herring is served at Bergdala, Kosta, Målerås, Orrefors and Pukeberg during the summer and at Christmas but also other dates. Group reservations can be made all year around.
The Red House
The Red House is both a shop and café. Here traditional Danish open faced sandwiches are served – and a real Danish plate lunch. You can also order take out. A small youth hostel is also located here.
Bergdala Wärdshus
This charming guest house with B&B, youth hostel and conference facilities is adjacent to the glassworks. They use organic, locally grown ingredients as far as possible, and have their own organic garden.
Hotell Orrefors
Unique restaurant serving both delicious Thai food and classic home cooking in Orrefors, within walking distance of the works. Offers both lunch buffet and classic à la carte menu. Pleasant and individual accommodations.
Olof Hotel & Restaurant
Olof Hotel & Restaurant in Åseda with its large dining room offers many options whether for an everyday lunch or a wedding celebration. Package deals with accommodations are available.
Fenix Confectionery
Visit this fine old confectionery with a real 50’s style located in the centre of Emmaboda. Enjoy classic baked goods and delicious sandwiches. Light lunches are also served. Outside dining is available during the summer.
