Museo de Valladolid

Divided into two sections, this museum features archeology from the Valladolid area, and fine arts displays including painting, sculpture, furniture and tapestries.

Campo Grande

This large park in the city centre is a delightful place to stroll among the peacocks and red squirrels, or kick back with an ice cream and watch the locals at leisure.

Museo del Arte Contemporaneo Español

Contemporary art from 1918 to the present day, located in the cloisters of the Monasterio de San Benito. It’s an impressive collection, and the bookshop is recommended.

Plaza Mayor

Flanked by vibrant red buildings, this glorious old square is at the very heart of the city. Grab a coffee on one of the terraces, and watch the city stroll by.

Museo Oriental

Teatro Calderón

This is Valladolid’s principal theatre and concert hall. It has a lively programme of plays, jazz, opera and flamenco.

Museo Provincial del Vino, Peñafiel

The area surrounding Valladolid is one of Spain’s major wine producing regions. Most of the actual bodegas don’t admit visitors, so this museum, which offers wine-tasting, is a good alternative. It’s located in the town’s wonderful old castle.

Casa-Museo de Cervantes

Cervantes lived in this house from 1603 to 1606, in what was then an unfashionable and malodorous district of Valladolid. It’s redecorated with furniture of the day and hosts regular exhibitions related to the writer.

Plaza de San Pablo

Felipe II was born in the Palacio de Pimentel on the Plaza de San Pablo in 1527. A fabulous tiled mural relates the life of the king and the history of sixteenth-century Valladolid. Also in this square is the magnificent Iglesia de San Pablo.
