Minorca - Eating
The island’s signature dish is (unsurprisingly) seafood – caldereta de llagosta or lobster stew to be precise. Also, look out for pork with apples or plums and dozens of variations of oliaigues, or garlic soup. Unless you’re of a robust constitution, don’t be tempted by a Minorcan breakfast – neat gin!
Club Nautic Cas Quinto
High-class seafood restaurant with outstanding views of the harbour, and food to match. The best venue in town for trying lobster stew.
Restaurante Moli Des Raco
Traditional Minorcan dining in the confines of an old windmill. Specialities include Partridge with Cabbage and Roast Suckling Pig.
Restaurante Sa Figuera
With four fishing boats and 10 waiters, the chances are that your fish will be fresh and the service attentive. Prides itself on the set menu of 4 or 5 starters followed by one main course. Good selection of top-class white wines.
Restaurante Itake
A restaurant in the heart of Mao harbour that likes to be different. Serves up traditional recipes with a modern twist. Also expect ostrich, kangaroo and other ‘alternative’ dishes on the menu.
Restaurante Es Port
Having its own boat is a good sign that the fish at this Fornells restaurant is going to be fresh. Tables are available in or out, the latter providing good opportunities for watching quayside strollers.
Pizzeria La Caprichosa
Famed for its Minorcan-style pizzas, but also serving a gamut of grilled meats. The terrace tables are literally four paces from the harbour. Inside seating is in a cave-like environment.
