Girona - Eating
The fact that Europe’s first culinary scripts ever written were in Catalan, confirms the strong tradition of Catalonian food culture. Pa amb tomàquet – or tomato bread – is a common starter, while the Crema Catalana is an obvious and delicious choice for dessert. Mar i Montanya – the mixing of poultry and seafood – and Calçotada are other traditional dishes that are worth trying. For celebrations, have a go with the bubbly Cava.
La Riba
While specialising in mouth-watering seafood, this stylish restaurant also has excellent views of the houses by the river.
Cal Ros
In this rustic 12th-century building, try the bacallà – cod – coated with pistachios and olives or the fillets de llenguado – sole – in cava.
Le Bistrot

Casa Marieta
This is Girona’s oldest and one of the city’s best restaurants. Try the chicken with grayfish – another Catalan speciality.
