Asturias - AVILES
The principality’s third city is Aviles, on the coast just a few kilometres from the airport. Like Gijon, it is mainly an industrial city with a historic core. The hub of the old quarter is the Plaza de Espana, overlooked by the Iglesia de San Francisco and the Iglesia de San Nicolas, both dating from the 14th century. The arcaded streets around the square are at their liveliest on summer evenings and are lined with restaurants and cafés, there are also beaches nearby.
COSTA VERDE
West of Aviles stretches the Costa Verde, a long stretch of rugged cliffs, sandy bays and deep river estuaries. Cudillero, the closest village to the airport, has a good selection of places to eat and drink, all crammed together around a small fishing harbour. Further west, Luarca is another tranquil and attractive fishing port.
