Nice - CANNES
The islands of L’île Sainte-Marguerite and L’île Saint-Honorat are two beautiful getaways from the city of Cannes. Just a boatride from the harbour, behind the palatial cinema, you can travel to these islands which are fifteen and thirty minutes respectively away from Cannes. L’île Sainte-Marguerite used to be a prison island, where a mysterious, masked prisoner was held in the 17th-century. The peaceful, flower-decked island of Saint-Honorat houses a monastery.
Eating
Farfalla
You will find the most interesting view from your dinner plate here. This is because the restaurant is beside the Staircase – the one beside the festival building. A most extensive menu too, including everything from omelets to Iranian caviar. Loud music and festivities toward the late evening. It also has a terrace.
Eating
Brasserie Carlton
A lovely view of the ocean and La Croisette, located in the Carlton Inter-Continental Hôtel. This famous restaurant has a certain way of bringing together a lovely lunch with the longing of a relaxing day. Here you will find a well-stocked buffet and A la Carte with Mediterranean tones.
Bars & Nightlife
Bar Majestic
This bar is ugly, lies on a side street and serves beer in plastic mugs. So what? Well, le Petit Majestic (as it called in initiated circles) is both the most secret and the most public party place during the Cannes festival until very late at night. Here, on the pavement in front of the club, around 500 film journalists often meet to spill beer foam on their dinner jackets, after having padded round the big gala parties.
Bars & Nightlife
L’Atelier Palm Beach
One of the hottest night clubs in Cannes’ party life, right out at the end of the beach promenade. Features oriental tables, red leather and red eyes. When it is warm, they also offer outdoor clubbing. Also restaurant.
Shopping
A short, simple rule: rue des Antibes for the general run of designer clothes, and Boulevard de la Croisette for the extravagant, luxury ones.
