Montpellier - Bars & Nightlife

Montpellier’s large student population sets the tone of its nightlife. The warm evenings and relaxed atmosphere make Montpellier one of France’s nicest nighttime cities. Many of the bars and clubs are located around Place Jean Jaurés in the Old Town.

L’antidote Café

An artfully decorated and popular bar, L’Antidote Cafe is close to the Place Jean Jaurés Square. DJs play here on weekends.

Rockstore

Located between Place de la Comédie and the railway station is Rockstore. Five bars and clubs – the largest of which has a capacity of 1,000 people – share this space. Despite the name, rock’s not the only music played here, there’s also electronica, world music, etc. There’s no risk of missing the entrance to Rockstore: above it, a suspended bright red Cadillac looks like it’s had a head-on collision with the building.

La Pleine Lune

This bar is popular with artists and intellectuals. Live bands play here from time to time, albeit with the volume turned down very low.

Mix Koffee

The Mix Koffee bar and club has managed to combine techno nights with reggae since 1997. The original 50 square metres space has now been abandoned in favour of a larger venue.
