Basilique Notre Dame De La Garde
The defining symbol of Marseille, towering on a hilltop 154 metres above the city, stands the gilded statue of the Virgin Mary stretching skywards. Here are stunning views.
Château D’if
France’s very own Alcatraz, built in 1527 and used a prison by the 17th century. It was the inspiration for Alexandre Dumas’ novel, “The Count of Monte Cristo”.
Musée D’histoire De Marseille
This is an interesting and well visited museum with artifacts stretching back to the foundation of the city.
Prado Beach
Located at the end of the corniche is Marseille’s main sand beach. With a steady breeze, the beach is excellent for kite-flying or a first windsurfing lesson.
Parc Borély
Parc Borély is a stunning 40 hectare park situated near Prado beach. As well as the 18th-century chateau, there are the superbly well maintained English, French and botanical gardens and a rowing lake.
Musée Des Docks Romains
Musée des docks romains is situated on the site of a Roman docks warehouse discovered after the war. There are a range of impressive artifacts on display which were discovered when the old harbor was rebuilt.
Abbaye Saint-victor
Marseille’s oldest church. The abbey is built by the graves of Marseille’s first martyrs. Well worth a visit.
Vieux Port Fish Market
There is a bustling fish market in the Vieux Port well worth exploring. The intense smell of fish and salty sea contribute to making this experience one you will not forget. Why not buy some fresh fish and cook the Marseille specialty “Bouillabaisse”?
La Cité Radieuse
Designed in 1946 and completed in 1952, La Cité Radieuse pioneered the modernist block of flats. Each apartment is different from the other.
