Qingdao - Do & See
Qingdao’s charm lie in both the sights it is known for as well as the small details a century-old florist shop, a corner drugstore or a delicately carved stone doorway, characterized by the statuesque sketching on the time-honoured buildings.
Zhanqiao Pier
As the symbol of Qingdao, Zhaoqiao Pier was built as a wharf in 1891. After being expanded and repaired twice in 1931 and 1985, it is now open for tourists. The pier is 440 metres long and 10 metres wide with giant granite supports and a two-storey distinctive Chinese style Pagoda, called “Huilange”. Along the shore is the beautiful Pier Park, which is a pleasant and quiet place for tourists to rest or enjoy the scenery of the “Ocean Heart” - Zhanqiao Pier.
The May 4th Square
Marked by the huge flaming sculpture called “Wind of May”, the square is built to the memory of the May 4th Movement in 1919, when Chinese nationalism was revived by a popular students-led uprising. Connecting the Qingdao municipal government building and the east coast, it consists by a coastal part and two squares, which are called the City Hall Square and the Central Square. In the evening, the colorful lights and changeful water fountain make the whole square become even more attractive.
Zhongshan Park
Zhongshan Park is the largest park in Qingdao, covering an area of 800,000 sqm and located between Huiquan Square and Taiping Hill. Best known for its cherry blossoms in the spring, lantern show in the summer and chrysanthemum show in the autumn, it is named “Flower Sea in Eastern Garden”. In the west part of the park, the Zoo is a children’s paradise, with a mini-train, bumper cars and merry-go-rounds.
Badaguan Villa Area
Lying between Huiquan Cape and Taiping Cape, it was named “Badaguan (Eight Great Passes)” with the eight roads named after the eight great passes of the Great Wall. It is well known for the numbers of western historical buildings and the many beautiful trees and various flowers blossoming in different seasons. Huashilou, the original German governors’ villa for fishing, hunting and relaxing, provides a typical guesthouse blended with European castle styles and decorated with cobblestones on the external wall. The scene is gorgeous and the setting is a first choice for many newly married couples for their wedding photos.
Qingdao Sight-seeing Tv Tower
The Qingdao Sightseeing TV Tower is ranked the No.1 Iron Tower in China. It is 230 metres high at the altitude of 110 metres on Taiping Hill in the tourism centre of Qingdao. Apart from its function as a television tower, it is also a major Qingdao tourist attraction. The rotating watchtower at the 160-metre level offers a bird’s-eye view of the whole city. For lovers it is a romantic spot to enjoy each other’s company over dinner with soft music and picturesque scenery.
Qingdao Underwater World
Adjacent to Lu Xun Park is the Qingdao Underwater World, known as the Marine Products Museum. It covers an area of 7,300 sqm and accommodates an astonishing water body of 4,000 tonnes. It is a complex with a myriad of animal species on display.
Qingdao International Beercity
The 35-hectare Beer City is located in the Shilaoren National Tourism Resort. The city falls into two parts, trade and entertainment, where many brands of beer and snacks are offered along with drinking contests and amusement shows. There is a top-grade amusement park with large theatres for the festival’s literary events. Welcome to Qingdao International Beer Festival!
Laoshan Scenic Area
Named in the Tang Dynasty with the growth of Taoism, Laoshan Mountain (Mt. Lao) is in China a household name for its vistas as well as the Taoism shrine. Laoshan Jufeng Peak, Liuqing River, Taiping Palace, Yangkou Beach and Nine Waters and Eighteen Pools are the main tourist spots. Thanks to the climate, this is a national park good for all seasons. Local travel agencies offer tours which vary between the southern route that covers both the Jufeng Peak and Taiping Palace, the eastern route to Yangkou Beach that covers both Taiping Palace and Qipan Stone Area and the central route to Nine Waters and Eighteen Pools.
Seaside Promenade
A newly-built plank promenade that meanders along the southern beach for about 40km, from Tuandao Cape in southwestern Qingdao to Shilaoren Holiday Resort in the eastern part of the city. This makes it possible to walk from the western part of the city, covering Qingdao Bay, Huiquan Bay, Taiping Bay and come to the end at the Sculpture Road in the eastern Qingdao.
Xiaoqingdao
Xiaoqingdao (Little Qingdao Isle), shaped like an ancient violin is also called "Violin Isle". Covered by verdant trees and grass, this tiny island is topped by a 15.5 meters high white lighthouse built by the Germans in the 1900s. It is an engaging view at night.
