Kunming - The City
Located close to Southeast Asia, Yunnan Province which sits right on the Vietnamese border, sometimes resemble more with its neighbour and its wealth of flora and fauna and just as colourful minority tribes. This makes Kunming, the provincial capital, a great base for exploring this aspect of China. The city itself though, is unmistakably Chinese. Its main attractions are the vast Dianchi Lake and the famous Hoti-Expo Garden.The Jinmabiji Square and the Kundu area have become the centre of the city. For shopping, the Zhengyi Road, Nanping Street, Xiao Ximen and Qingnian Road are the places to go.
Situated at an height of 1891 metres, some visitors may be susceptible to altitude sickness. Be observant. Sunscreen is also strongly advisable at these altitudes as well as an umbrella against the ever changing weather and an overcoat since it gets really cold when it rains.
