Welcome to Christchurch
Christchurch, located in the province of Canterbury, is the largest city on the South Island, yet remains a friendly and welcoming city—compact enough to easily explore on foot or bicycle.
New Zealand has in the last two years suffered three major earthquakes. The first one occurred in September 2010 and the following two aftershocks as late as February and June 2011. They caused severe damages to the city of Christchurch and the work of rebuilding the city is still in progress.
