The Island
The guide was updated:
Hamilton Island is one of the 74 tropical islands in the Coral Sea, between the Queensland coast and the Great Barrier Reef. It’s the largest inhabited island in the Whitsundays, situated 1,222 km north of Brisbane and 655 km south of Cairns.
A picturesque, self-contained destination, Hamilton Island has a commercial marina, several resorts, restaurants, bars, takeaways and sports facilities. It’s also the only island in the Great Barrier Reef with its own airport. You can fly directly from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Cairns in next to no time. If you prefer, you can take a pleasant 30 minute boat ride from Shute Harbour or sail there in your own yacht and moor in the marina.
