Vitoria - Eating
Vitoria’s gastronomy is excellent, based on fresh and seasonal ingredients, which fits perfectly with the famous wines of the Rioja Alavesa region or the Txakoli of Alava (a young white wine).
Special mention goes to the sheep’s cheese From Idiazabal and potatoes From Alava, as well as the wild mushrooms or "perretxikos" (also called St George’s mushrooms). There is much more to try: Porrusalda (leek soup), snails "a la alavesa", roast suckling pig, river crabs in a sauce... enjoy!
